The silver Maria Theresa thaler features the famous portrait of Empress Maria Theresa, facing right, with the distinctive inscription “M. THERESIA D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG.” (Maria Theresa, by the grace of God, Empress of the Romans, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia) on the obverse. The reverse depicts the richly adorned Habsburg coat of arms with the double-headed eagle and crown, along with the inscription “ARCHID. AVST. DUX. BURG. CO. TYR. 1780 X.” (Archduchess of Austria, Duchess of Burgundy, Countess of Tyrol, 1780, mint mark). The coin is struck in silver with a fineness of 833/1000, weighs approximately 28 g, and has a diameter of 39 mm. It is one of the most well-known and widely circulated trade coins, still minted today – always bearing the year 1780 – in tribute to the Empress’s legacy.
